pining for petrichor

The good thing about this dry blazing heat is that paint and varnish dry fast. I venture outdoors only to spray foul chemicals, then retreat back to the coolth.

I am making new art. Come see some of it! This year's Wallmountables at DCAC opens Friday, July 12th. One of my fellow Arts Collective members will also be hanging his work, for the first time! We are excited.

PdF 2023 & the WhitherVane

Yes, EFAC* will be on site at the Spring 2023 Playa del Fuego (tickets will be on sale for a very brief window on Sunday, April 2nd at 12 noon).

We will be installing the WhitherVane, a delightful whimsy that should spin merrily in the breeze if no Tamaquanian cryptids have intefered with the mechanism.

As with last year's SignPostA (pictured below), we will utilize the WhitherVane's pole and its many Attachment Points to provide helpful directions to various major features of the Burn.

Bring your own signage or make a placard on-site to affix below the whirligig. Let everyone know the whereabouts of your theme camp, art, event, or favorite vantage point to witness the trumpet-like song of the burrowing nymphs!

Mettle

Filth & I had been talking about learning to weld, and the notion continued to smolder in me... then I happened upon the course listings for The Art League (at the Torpedo Factory), and now I am going to learn how to weld. (Details to follow!)

Also, I got in my application for the DC Arts Center's Sparkplug Collective. I started to type, "so I'm waiting to hear," but I'm not waiting. I've decided to behave as if I am in. Deadlines and shared projects energize me, so I am tapping into that energy as much as I can. Getting my atelier/aerie more organized in the direction of making more art. And making more art.

12 Things of Bourgeoismas (Extinctual Retrospectivism)

EFAC 2020

I had an idea to do this post on December 25th to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Louise Bourgeois (above), but somehow sheltering in place & being unemployed keeps me so busy?! But here it is, the cusp of a clean calendar, and here are some of the many Things that we at the Extinct Flightless Arts Collective contrived to create in 02020...

Witness

Filthyhippie and I (Bxiie) have created a multimedia installation under the auspices of EFAC.  The piece is called Witness and explores the subjective nature of narrative and experience.

Losing My Electrons

Today's art is by Filth. Filth's prior contributions to the Collective have included co-discovery of Hystricomorpha Philthocynia, early documentary photography of the Cabinet of Extinct Curiosities, and endless infusions of enthusiasm. He will answer your questions, read all your comments, and accept submissions of odd rusted metal objects via the EFAC home office. He is not currently a dandy.

LOSING MY ELECTRONS

Hair thins. Toenails yellow. Free radical damage accumulates. Blueberries may slow the process, but the direction of travel remains the same.

These photographs depict the routine oxidation of metal, paint and other finishes. I couldn't resist manipulating the images (more or less, as the case may be), playing with light and color, to bring out the natural... Why isn't there a word that explicitly means both [flips coin, chaos loses] patterned and chaotic?

Everything decays, even our dreams. I was born to be a dandy, but look how I turned out. What choice is there, but to accept the inevitable, and allow events to wash over us as metal accepts flame?
